Help us improve transport for Kings Norton, Longbridge, Northfield, and Weoley residents and tell us your views on Labor-run Birmingham City Council’s plans to charge some vehicles driving through the City Centre.

In the last two years Mayor Andy Street has been working with transport operators, local Councillors and Government to address the decades of underinvestment in our City’s and Region’s transport network. We are seeing progress being made locally including:

Improvements to the Cross-City Line by the new West Midlands Railway

Work underway on a 600 space Park and Ride at Longbridge – taking cars off our roads

The transformation of Longbridge station and plans unveiled to replace University station

Government funding secured towards new stations at Moseley, Kings Heath and Stirchley will mean more services into the City from Kings Norton

Major investment by National Express in a new fleet of cleaner modern Platinum buses

The Council’s new Bristol Road cycle lane into the City

In the wider region we are seeing increased train services, and the expansion of the Metro network.

However, there is much more to do to bring our transport infrastructure to be able to meet the needs of local people. So, help us by completing our special survey on the transport improvements you want to see.

Plus, importantly Labour run Birmingham City Council have announced they intend to start charging some vehicles entering and driving through the City Centre from next year.

We really want to know if you have heard about this and how these charges might impact upon your life. Under their plans older vehicles and those defined as “polluting” will be charged for entering the inner Ring Road - £8 a day for affected cars. And the charge is expected to raise £165million from motorists – with the money going to the Labour run Birmingham City Council who will decide what to do with the money.

So, we are really keen to know what you think about this new charge on motorists and we will make sure the views of local people in this part of Birmingham are strongly represented.
